7 Reasons To Start A Blog Today
I don’t sleep these days. That pretty much sums up my life.
Juggling a 9 month old baby and a blog isn’t easy, but it’s just a part of who I am and what I do.
Why do I love it so much? Why do I give up hours of Netflix watching and sleeping in on the weekends?
Well, here are a few reasons…a few pretty damn good reasons to start a blog today.
YOUR WRITING WILL IMPROVE
In order to become a good writer, you have to write a lot. Every damn day. Twice a day. Even when you hate it. As a blogger, I’m writing all the time, and thank God for that because when I look back at some of my earlier posts, I cringe at how bad they were.
YOU’LL HAVE A PLACE TO VENT
I started my lifestyle blog because I needed to vent. True story. I never in a million years thought that blogging could be profitable or that it could be a business. I was simply pissed off at work and needed a place to rant about all the crap I was dealing with. 7 years later, it’s still kind of nice to have a place where I can share my thoughts and feelings whenever I want. FYI, it’s a little cheaper than therapy.
YOU’LL GET TO BE CREATIVE
I never used to think of myself as the creative type. I couldn’t and still can’t draw. I can’t sing. I can’t play any kind of musical instrument. So growing up, I gravitated towards numbers. I was good at math, good at statistics, and because of that, I spent a lot of time using that other part of my brain. But when I stared writing, I realized that I WAS creative. And not only was I creative, I loved CREATING. Blogging has allowed me to turn blank pages into content that thousands of people read every day, and dude that’s pretty amazing. I look forward to creating a whole lot more now that I’ve gotten started.

YOU’LL GET TO HELP OTHERS
There’s absolutely nothing I love more than being able to help others through my writing. Every once in a while I’ll receive an e-mail from someone thanking me for writing a particular post and that means everything to me. I’ve fallen on my ass PLENTY of times in my life, and my number one goal with my blogging and my book is to use all of my failures and experiences to help others. If it wasn’t for blogging, I wouldn’t be able to reach as many people as I do now, and I’m truly thankful for that.
YOU’LL CREATE KICK-ASS OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOURSELF
I’ve experienced a lot of amazing opportunities as a result of this blog, all of which I’m really thankful for. I’ve traveled to Alaksa (all expenses paid) to write about a hotel there, and boy was that the coolest place ever. I also landed a book deal and became a published author, so there’s that. But probably the best thing that’s happened so far is that I was able to make a huge career switch and now work as a social media manager and copywriter. Had it not been for the experience I’ve gained through blogging, none of that would have been possible.
YOU’LL CREATE ADDITIONAL REVENUE STREAMS
I don’t blog full time, but hey, as a part time blogger, I’m doing pretty well! I’m averaging about $1,000 a month from sponsored posts, affiliate marketing, and ad revenue, which has helped me big time since I took a huge pay cut to stay home with my baby girl.
YOU’LL LEARN NEW SKILLS
Before I started blogging, I was the least craftiest person I knew! Now I’m working on DIY projects every once in a while, creating things like teacup candles, sugar scrubs, and even a DIY kitty cave for my cat! I’m also working on my cooking skills, so my husband’s really happy about that. But in addition, I’ve also become a much better communicator, a heck of a storyteller, and I’ve also learned how to deal with negativity in the healthiest of ways.
